After School Is Getting an MBA Really Worth It? eBook Nkem Nwankwo

As someone who is seriously considering starting an MBA program this year, a friend of mine recommended this book for me. I'm really glad I read After School because it has given me a much different perspective on what the process is actually like.

Before reading this book, my plan was "Phase 1: Get MBA. Phase 3: Receive 40% raise." Phase 2 was completely undefined. Not only does Nwankwo urge readers to think long and hard about their plan before going to business school, he raises several scenarios where making the time and financial investment might not be the most prudent option. The prospect of potentially saving years of effort and tens of thousands of dollars makes this book extremely valuable and a worthwhile read.

I appreciate how the author organizes the content, with the focus on candid interviews from graduates with varying educational, vocational, and national backgrounds. I also enjoyed reading about the impact that the MBA and post-graduate jobs had on the personal lives of the interviewees.

As someone who is already 10 years into my career field and looking into pursuing an executive MBA while still working full-time, some of the full-time impacts were lost on me. However, I learned a great deal from the author and his contributors which will help guide my planning and decision making over the next several months. I've also downloaded the Career Planning Assistant to help put together my game plan.

After School Is Getting an MBA Really Worth It? eBook Nkem Nwankwo Reviews

As someone who is considering an MBA, this book really helped solidify my decision to pursue an MBA program. Quitting your job and going into debt for 2 years isn't something to be taken lightly and the book gives a very honest and diverse perspective on the matter. I think it was especially helpful that the author interviewed so many different types of people. I got a well-rounded view and I think this book is for anyone who is considering a top program but doesn't exactly have access to folks who can provide insight.
Must read for anybody who has doubts about which step to take next in life...which is mostly all of us. Hearing from other people in your situation helps make difficult decisions just a little bit easier. With most of us graduating with the burden of student debt, going back to school to acquire more debt can seem ludicrous. Book is concise and offers a lot of information. Gives you different perspectives about whether an investment in an MBA is actually worth it to you. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about getting an MBA and even those who already have one.
Great read for anyone considering or pursuing an MBA. The author thoroughly researched and collected a variety of perspectives and career paths. Highly recommended.
Offers very thoughtful insight on how to value an MBA as it pertains to your goals. Really peels back the onion on which factors can drive a positive experience and ultimately make the investment worthwhile.
Such a useful book. I have literally asked this questions to many people and can never quite remember what key points we discussed. Well this book does all that work for me, so settle in and make an informed decision. Excellent insight!
The book is pretty interesting, it makes you think a lot as far as future plans, I like that the book included real people in the field that I could possibly be working in, because of this book I decided to enroll. I enrolled in school for myself because I know that it is going to be beneficial. You really get personal insight into people who have received the degree. They touch on how long it took them to maybe get a position after graduating. They touch on some of the struggles they got, some get lucky I guess because they seemed to have networked with the right people. I'd recommend this book if you are thinking of getting your MBA.
If you're looking for a source of diverse, direct, and honest perspectives spanning multiple industries, job titles, careers, and business schools, this book has you covered. After School provides a wealth of knowledge and in-depth analysis to those looking to expand their career opportunities and those who are just curious to see what real people think about their education and career choices--the good, the bad and the ugly. After School is useful for prospective MBA candidates, but also expands to those who are facing the age old question of "what do I want to be when I grow up?"
